The New Mexico Council for the Social Studies will present awards at the fall conference to outstanding teachers in the social studies at the elementary, middle/junior high school, high school, and college/university level. The Outstanding Social Studies Teacher Award, to be presented in those four categories, will begin the process to honor the nominee at the national level, sponsored by the National Council of Social Studies.
Criteria: Nominees must be educators in the state of New Mexico. Nominees do not have to be members of the New Mexico Council for the Social Studies.
In addition, NMCSS will make one award in each of the following categories:
*Service to The New Mexico Council for the Social Studies, to an individual
who has contributed substantial service to the organization
* Friend to Social Studies Education, to an individual, organization,
or other entity which has made substantial contributions to social studies
education in the state.
Nomination deadline is September 1 of each year. Recipients and nominators will be notified and honored at a luncheon during the NMCSS conference in the fall. Recognition includes a plaque, a complimentary membership in NMCSS, lunch, and subsequent publicity.
